ภาษาเป็นเรื่องที่พัฒนาได้เรื่อย ๆ (หรือที่พูดกันติดปากว่า ‘ภาษามันดิ้นได้’) และถ้าคำที่เกิดใหม่นั้นมันเป็นที่นิยมมากพอ ไม่นานก็จะกลายเป็นมาตรฐานที่ได้บรรจุอยู่ในพจนานุกรม
และวันนี้ทาง Merriam-Webster ได้เปิดเผย 150 คำใหม่ที่จะถูกบรรจุลงในดิกชันนารีของปี 2014 นี้ด้วย โดยมีหลายคำที่เกี่ยวข้องกับวงการดนตรีครับ เช่นคำที่ใช้เรียกบรรดาสาว ๆ ที่คลั่งใคล้ในวงดนตรีหนุ่ม ๆ เป็นอย่างมาก (ติ่ง) = ‘fangirl’, หรือคำเรียกแนวดนตรีอย่าง ‘dubstep’ และคำที่ใช้เรียกการระดมเงินทุนผ่านเว็บไซต์อย่าง ‘crowdfunding’ ก็ถูกบรรจุลงไปด้วยเช่นกัน ดูคำบางส่วนที่เกี่ยวข้องกับโลกดนตรีใบนี้ที่กำลังจะถูกบรรจะลงในดิกชันนารีของ Merriam-Webster ได้ด้านล่างครับ

“crowdfunding (n., 2006): the practice of soliciting financial contributions from a large number of people esp. from the online community”
“dubstep (n., 2002): a type of electronic dance music having prominent bass lines and syncopated drum patterns”
“fangirl (n., 1934): a girl or woman who is an extremely or overly enthusiastic fan of someone or something”
“steampunk (n., 1987): science fiction dealing with 19th-century societies dominated by historical or imagined steam-powered technology”
